All of us can sleep at night.

It’s really hard to sleep when we aren’t sure of the things we drink and don’t know if the things we make are making the world better. We like sleep so decided that at Sattwa everything needs to be able to answer the question: How is this making the world better? Everything means everything.

Organic, Fair Trade, Wind powered, Non-GMO, Vegan, Kosher, Super food

The world of spices, tea and sugar is notorious for poor labor practices and exploitation.

It’s newsworthy bad news.

But the good news is that with careful picking and lots of investigation you can actually source spices from fantastic companies in interesting places that pay people, care about safety and have the goal of keeping the world a place where plants grow forever.

This is good news for us, because chai…well lots of plants. Our goal is that every person that touches anything with Sattwa chai is paid well and fairly. Karma isn’t just a concept on trendy yoga shirts, the idea matters in the real world.

Better isn’t always easy, it’s always worth it.

To us organic is a no brainer. This is important because we sleep better when we eat better and with fewer additives. But most importantly organic is something that protects the people who are growing the crops and improves the quality of life in the area surrounding the farms or estates.

One of the overlooked reasons for the importance of organic growing methods is that organic methods are safer for the environment and people surrounding the fields.  The potential and actual harm created by non-organic methods is often directed at the unseen workers who are breathing, walking in the area, drinking the local water and raising their families near fields operated by companies who are only trying to fit the legal bare minimum for safety.

We have kids; we want to know that they could run happy near areas where our ingredients are grown. Water quality is a worldwide issue and we support farms that certify as organic and work on the water and soil quality.

We work at lowering our environmental impact through smart sourcing shipping and transport. We also work with our packaging to fit the safety guidelines for food quality and be recyclable. Even the compost is valuable and organic chai compost is highly prized. Let’s just say we never have any compost lying around.

If you have ideas, thoughts or suggestions please let us know, we are a work in progress and we are always looking for input.
